Mogadishu, Somalia — A Message of Hope

To Mogadishu: Jesus Is Calling You

We are not here to argue. We are here because we believe what your own Quran says about Isa al-Masih — and we want you to see what Christians believe He came to do.

About Mogadishu

The White Pearl of the Indian Ocean

Mogadishu — Muqdisho in Somali, meaning "seat of the Shah" — has stood on the Indian Ocean coast for over a thousand years. Arab traders founded a settlement here in the 10th century. Ibn Battuta visited in 1331 and described a prosperous, learned city ruled by pious Muslim scholars. That heritage of faith runs deep in every neighbourhood.

Today Mogadishu is a city rebuilding. After decades of conflict, its people have endured more than most cities on earth. The resilience here is real. The faith is sincere. We are not writing to challenge your faith — we are writing because we believe God is speaking to individual people in Mogadishu right now. Perhaps you.

Somalia's capital holds over 2.4 million people and is one of the most uniformly Muslim cities on earth. And yet — the One whom your Quran calls al-Masih, the Messiah, is speaking to people here.

What Your Quran Says About Isa al-Masih

We are not asking you to abandon anything you know. We begin where you already are — with words you already hold as sacred. The Quran speaks about Isa in extraordinary terms. These are Sahih International translations, word for word. Please read them slowly.

Quran 3:45
Al Imran (The Family of Imran)

"Indeed, Allah gives you good tidings of a word from Him, whose name will be the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary — distinguished in this world and the Hereafter and among those brought near to Allah."

No other figure in the Quran is called "the Messiah," "a word from Allah," and "distinguished in this world and the Hereafter."

Quran 4:171
An-Nisa' (The Women)

"The Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, was but a messenger of Allah and His word which He directed to Mary and a soul from Him."

The Quran calls Isa "His word" and "a soul from Him" — language used for no prophet other than Jesus.

Quran 19:30–33
Maryam (Mary)

"Jesus said: 'Indeed, I am the servant of Allah. He has given me the Scripture and made me a prophet... Peace is on me the day I was born and the day I will die and the day I am raised alive.'"

The infant Isa speaks from the cradle — no other prophet did this. He declares peace on the day of his birth, his death, and his resurrection.

Quran 5:110
Al-Ma'idah (The Table Spread)

"O Jesus, Son of Mary... you healed the blind and the leper with My permission; and when you brought forth the dead with My permission."

The Quran acknowledges Isa raising the dead as a real event — a miracle attributed to no other prophet in the Quran.

Quran 3:55
Al Imran (The Family of Imran)

"O Jesus, indeed I will take you and raise you to Myself and purify you from those who disbelieve and make those who follow you superior to those who disbelieve, until the Day of Resurrection."

Allah raised Isa to Himself. Those who follow Isa will be "superior until the Day of Resurrection." The Quran calls following him a path of honour.

"Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me."
Revelation 3:20 (ESV) — The words of Jesus
The Christian Claim

What Christians Believe That Goes Further

You have just read what the Quran says. Christians affirm everything you read — the virgin birth, the miracles, the sinlessness of Isa, his ascension. And then go one step further.

Christians believe Isa al-Masih is not only a prophet and a messenger. Christians believe He is the Son of God — God Himself entering human history in human form — who came to take upon Himself the full penalty of every human being's sin, so that we could stand before God clean.

Christians believe He died, and three days later rose bodily from the dead. Not as a story or symbol. As a historical event that the earliest followers testified to with their lives — in Mogadishu, in Rome, in Jerusalem, in every generation since.

✝

He is the Messiah — al-Masih

Both the Quran and the Bible give Isa the title "Messiah." Christians believe this title has its full weight: the anointed One sent to rescue humanity.

📖

He died for your sins

Christianity's central claim: the perfect Son of God took the punishment that humanity deserved, so that forgiveness could be offered freely to everyone.

🌅

He rose from the dead

The resurrection is not a metaphor. Christians believe Jesus physically rose on the third day — defeating death and opening the way to eternal life for all who believe.

🚪

The path is open to you

The word "whoever" appears throughout — no nationality, no history, no past excluded. Whoever believes. That includes every person in Mogadishu.

In God's Own Words

The Plan of Salvation

These words are from the Bible, English Standard Version. They are not our words. We are only putting them in front of you.

1

Every person has fallen short

The Christian faith begins with an honest diagnosis. Not that you are terrible — but that every single person, no matter how devout, has fallen short of what God is. The apostle who wrote these words included himself.

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
Romans 3:23 (ESV)
2

The consequence of sin — and God's gift

In the same breath where God's justice is spoken, His mercy is also spoken. The earned outcome of sin is death. But God offers something else entirely: a free gift, not a wage. A gift cannot be earned. It can only be received.

"For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Romans 6:23 (ESV)
3

God moved first — while you were still far from Him

God did not wait for human beings to clean themselves up before He acted. He acted first — while people were still sinning, still turning away. He came to us. He did not wait for us to come to Him.

"But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
Romans 5:8 (ESV)
4

Jesus is the door God opened

Christians believe God Himself entered human history in the person of Jesus — Isa al-Masih, whom your Quran calls the Messiah and the Word of God. He came to take upon Himself the full penalty of human sin so the path to God could be opened to everyone — including you, in Mogadishu, reading this now.

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life."
John 3:16 (ESV)
"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'"
John 14:6 (ESV)
5

Salvation is a gift received by faith — not by works

Christianity says the penalty has already been paid. What God asks is not that you do more — but that you trust the One who already did it all. Grace means unearned favour. God extends it freely to everyone.

"For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast."
Ephesians 2:8–9 (ESV)
6

Believe in your heart — confess with your mouth

This is the whole door. Believe that Jesus is Lord and that God raised Him from the dead. Say it honestly. That is all God asks. Not a perfect past. Not a perfect future. An honest heart.

"If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."
Romans 10:9 (ESV)
7

He will not turn away anyone who comes to Him

You may feel you have gone too far, lived too differently, done things that cannot be forgiven. Jesus Himself said otherwise. He said "whoever comes" — not "whoever has lived well enough."

"All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out."
John 6:37 (ESV)
An Invitation

If You Want to Receive This Gift

There is no magic formula. God hears honest words from an honest heart. He hears in Somali, in Arabic, in English, in silence. If you mean what you say, He hears you.

Lord God, I know that I have sinned and fallen short of what You are. I believe that Jesus — Isa al-Masih — died for my sins and was raised from the dead. I turn away from my old way of living. I receive Your forgiveness. I confess that Jesus is Lord. Come into my life. I am Yours.

If you prayed that — or something like it, in your own words — the Bible says you are now a child of God. Welcome. He has heard you.
